Child Protection & Rescue

Although the Kenyan Constitution (2010) mandates the protection of children, the reality is that millions of children across Nairobi and Kenya still face abuse, neglect, and exploitation every day. Regardless of age, background, or culture, many children are exposed to violence, harmful practices, lack of parental care, and sexual abuse—risks that intensify during emergencies such as floods, drought, or domestic violence.

At Promise Giving Children’s Home, we operate Child Protection and Rescue Centers (CPRCs) that offer immediate safety, healing, and hope for vulnerable children. These centers rescue, rehabilitate, and reintegrate children who are abandoned, orphaned, or at-risk, providing holistic care that addresses their physical, emotional, spiritual, and educational needs.

We currently manage two residential rescue centers:

🏠 Promise Giving Children’s Home – Umoja Tena

🏠 Promise Giving Children’s Home – Saika

Children in our care are placed into age- or needs-based units and guided through a structured journey until they are safely reintegrated into families through tracing, foster care, or adoption, always in collaboration with relevant government authorities.
Beyond protection, our CPRCs also serve as nurturing spaces for talent discovery and personal growth. Every child deserves not just a safe place, but the opportunity to dream, heal, and thrive.

👶 Babies Unit

This unit cares for our most delicate residents-children aged 0 to 2 years. It also accommodates children with special needs or high-dependency cases who may require extended care. As the most sensitive and labor-intensive unit in the home, it demands exceptional attention and resources.

Infants rely exclusively on formula milk for the first six months, after which they are gradually introduced to solid foods. To ensure their well-being, caregivers work in rotating shifts, and the unit is under 24-hour supervision by a healthcare provider.

Due to their low immunity, especially among those who were not breastfed, maintaining high standards of hygiene and care is essential.

👦👧 Senior Boys & Girls Units

Designed for teenagers aged 13 to 18 years, this unit focuses on preparing youth for adulthood. Residents are taught personal responsibility, leadership, and life skills.

Caregivers help them identify their strengths and interests while assigning age-appropriate responsibilities.

The goal is to mold well-rounded, independent young adults with strong character and purpose.

🚼 Toddlers’ Unit

Upon turning two years old, children transition into the Toddlers’ Unit.

The first phase caters to those aged 2 to 3.5 years, with a focus on catching up with key developmental milestones such as walking, talking, and potty training.

Caregivers offer hands-on support and guidance to encourage independence and confidence.

Once ready, the children graduate to the next level of the unit, which serves as a pre-school preparation phase.

🧒 Junior Boys & Girls Units

This stage includes children aged 6 to 12 years, divided into separate boys’ and girls’ units.

Each unit is overseen by two dedicated house mothers who support the children in their daily routines.

They supervise personal hygiene, help with homework, and ensure each child maintains healthy habits and emotional well-being.

These are formative years where structure, discipline, and nurturing play a crucial role.
